151 Musician Hashtags for Instagram to BOOST your views and followers and HOW to use them!

Hashtags have evolved into digital office water coolers that users can share similar content and have discussions about whatever the hashtag is related to.  In this article I will give to some instant gratification by providing my 151 hashtags for musicians - and also give you my thoughts on how to get the most out of your hashtag use to promote your music/self brand.

How this article will be broken down:

I have organized 151 different hashtags in 9 categories so you can quickly find the ones that will work best for you. Idealistically I would like you to only take a couple directly from this article - but more importantly - inspire you to go out and find much more niche hashtags that will suit your page much more efficiently. Think of this as a launching pad to shoot you in the right direction.

The benefits of finding relevant, smaller, hashtags are:

a. Gives people a chance to recognize your IG handle.

b. Builds more relationships (networking) that are heavily related to your business/music.

c. "Hot leads" or people that are more likely to be active followers.

d. An important step towards finding your online community.

For these [hashtags] to actually do anything you should....

The magic isn't in the hashtags themselves, rather, how you interact with people online. Don't expect amazing results by simply maxing out your hashtag use on every post. Take time and interact with people. Go through the actual hashtag pages you are using and become an active member. I think you will be surprised by people's reaction towards genuine comments, critiques, etc.

This is a key step that most will half ass at best. It takes commitment to sit down everyday and scroll though the digital abyss leaving genuine comments and interacting with people along the way. I recommend creating a schedule so you have time frames allotted for social media promotion/growth.

Don't be afraid to follow people, but follow them for their content not in hopes of them "following you back".  This is pointless because those people have a high probable chance of being passive followers keeping "one more person" in your following count. You want active followers who are actually there for your content. This is a strategy made wildly popular by Gary Vaynerchuk in his book "Jab Jab Jab Right Hook"

Having an Instagram with 30k followers but only 500 active is not what you want. Always have in mind what you have to offer as oppose to expecting from others.

... Good luck and treat people how you would want to be treated on the internet. Everyone wins that way.

8. Performance Pages, Reposts, Shoutouts, Paid - Promotions, and More:

... Many [but not all] of these hashtags are the actual hashtags you must post on to get REPOSTED by the corresponding pages. I would recommend following these accounts or looking into the plethora of other accounts that offer paid promotions - many of which don't use hashtags and rely on users to either go to their website to get reposted or DM for further information. Typically the norm is PayPal for business transactions. Prices may vary and will increase as the page accrues more & more followers. Typical prices vary from $10.00 - $75.00+.

9. Brands and "Outside of the Box" Hashtags:

... I am using brands I am familiar with. If you recall my "jumping off " statement from earlier in the article - I encourage you to find the brands YOU use and see if they're active on social media. If you are a cello player, flute, etc. it is pointless for you to be using #GibsonCustom or #TaylorGuitars.
